Refund & Return Policy

Last updated: September 2026

At Home Tech, we want you to be happy with your purchase. This Refund & Return Policy explains how we handle returns, refunds, exchanges and products that have a problem.

This policy applies to purchases made through the Home Tech website and is intended to operate alongside the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts or modifies any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law.

1. Australian Consumer Law

Our products come with automatic consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.

You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.

You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

These rights apply independently of our voluntary return policy or any manufacturer’s warranty.

2. Change-of-Mind Returns

If you change your mind about your purchase, Home Tech accepts returns within 30 days from the date you receive the product.

To qualify for a change-of-mind return:

  • The return request must be made within 30 days of delivery.
  • The product must be unused and in its original condition.
  • The product should be returned with its original packaging, accessories, manuals and included items where reasonably possible.
  • The product must not have been damaged through misuse, incorrect installation or improper handling.
  • Proof of purchase is required.

Change-of-mind returns are a voluntary policy offered by Home Tech and are separate from your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Australian Consumer Law does not generally require a business to accept a return simply because a customer has changed their mind. Where a business offers a change-of-mind policy, it can set reasonable conditions for those returns.

3. Products With a Major Problem

If a product has a major failure under the Australian Consumer Law, you may be entitled to choose a refund or replacement.

A major failure can include situations where the product:

  • Would not have been purchased had the consumer known about the problem.
  • Is significantly different from its description or demonstration model.
  • Is substantially unfit for its normal purpose and cannot easily be made fit within a reasonable time.
  • Is unsafe.
  • Has a problem that amounts to a major failure under the Australian Consumer Law.

Where applicable, you may also be entitled to compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss or damage resulting from the failure.

4. Products With a Minor Problem

Where a product has a problem that does not amount to a major failure, Home Tech may first provide a suitable remedy such as a repair or replacement, depending on the circumstances.

If the problem cannot be fixed within a reasonable time, further remedies may be available under the Australian Consumer Law.

We may assess the product before determining the appropriate remedy.

5. Faulty or Defective Products

If your product is faulty, defective or does not meet the consumer guarantees, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible.

Depending on the nature and seriousness of the problem, we may arrange:

  • A repair
  • A replacement
  • A refund
  • Another remedy available under the Australian Consumer Law

We will assess the issue and determine the appropriate process in accordance with your consumer rights.

The 30-day change-of-mind period does not limit your rights for faulty products.

Consumer-guarantee rights can continue to apply for a reasonable period depending on the product and circumstances, even after a manufacturer’s warranty period has ended.

6. Products Damaged During Delivery

Please inspect your order when it arrives.

If your product has been damaged during delivery, contact us as soon as possible and provide:

  • Your order number
  • Photos of the product
  • Photos of the packaging
  • A description of the damage

We will assess the issue and work with you to arrange an appropriate remedy.

For large or difficult-to-return products, such as large appliances, we may arrange collection or provide instructions for returning the product where appropriate.

7. Incorrect Product Received

If we send you the wrong product, please contact us as soon as possible.

We will arrange the appropriate correction, which may include:

  • Sending the correct product
  • Arranging collection of the incorrect product
  • Providing a refund where appropriate

You will not be required to purchase the correct product again simply because we sent the wrong item.

8. Return Shipping Costs

Change of Mind

For change-of-mind returns, the customer is generally responsible for the reasonable cost of returning the product to us.

For large, heavy or difficult-to-return appliances, please contact us before arranging transport so we can provide return instructions.

Faulty, Damaged or Incorrect Products

Where a product is confirmed to have a problem covered by the Australian Consumer Law, Home Tech will handle reasonable return or collection arrangements as required by the circumstances.

Australian Consumer Law can require businesses to cover reasonable return costs for faulty products, particularly where the product is large, heavy or difficult to return.

9. Original Packaging

For change-of-mind returns, we may require the product to be returned in its original condition and packaging.

However, this requirement does not limit your Australian Consumer Law rights when you are returning a product because of a fault, defect or other consumer-guarantee issue.

We will assess faulty-product claims according to the circumstances and applicable consumer law.

10. Installed Appliances

For appliances that have been installed, connected or used, please contact us before attempting to remove or return the product.

This may include:

  • Refrigerators
  • Washing machines
  • Dryers
  • Dishwashers
  • Ovens
  • Cooktops
  • Air conditioners
  • Other large appliances

Do not attempt to disconnect electrical, gas, plumbing or permanently installed equipment unless it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Where a product has a problem covered by the Australian Consumer Law, we will provide appropriate instructions for assessment, repair, replacement, collection or another applicable remedy.

11. Refunds

Once a refund has been approved, we will process it using the original payment method where reasonably possible.

Refund processing may take up to 5 business days after Home Tech approves the refund.

Your bank or payment provider may require additional time for the funds to appear in your account.

For a change-of-mind return, the original delivery or shipping charge may not be refundable where applicable.

For refunds arising from a consumer guarantee issue, the applicable Australian Consumer Law rights will apply.

12. Exchanges

For change-of-mind purchases, exchanges may be available at Home Tech’s discretion, subject to product availability and the requirements of this policy.

For faulty products, replacement rights may apply under the Australian Consumer Law depending on the circumstances.

13. Products Not Eligible for Change-of-Mind Returns

Change-of-mind returns may not be accepted where a product:

  • Has been used or installed.
  • Has been damaged after delivery.
  • Has been modified.
  • Is missing significant components or accessories.
  • Has been damaged through misuse or improper handling.
  • Cannot reasonably be resold in its original condition.

These exclusions apply only to our change-of-mind policy and do not remove or restrict rights available under the Australian Consumer Law.

14. Manufacturer Warranties

Some products may come with a manufacturer’s warranty.

A manufacturer’s warranty is separate from your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

The expiry of a manufacturer’s warranty does not automatically mean that your consumer-guarantee rights have ended.

Where applicable, we may work with the manufacturer or authorised service provider to assist with warranty claims.

15. How to Request a Return or Refund

To request a return, refund, repair or replacement, please contact us through our Contact Us page.

Please provide:

  • Your full name
  • Order number
  • Product name
  • Date of purchase
  • Reason for the return
  • Photos or videos where relevant
  • A description of the problem, if the product is faulty

For large appliances, please wait for our instructions before arranging transportation or attempting to disconnect the appliance.

16. Assessment of Products

Home Tech may need to inspect or assess a product before determining the appropriate remedy.

This does not prevent you from exercising any rights available to you under the Australian Consumer Law.

Where a product is found to have been damaged through misuse, accidental damage or improper installation, the applicable consumer guarantees may not cover that particular problem.

17. No “No Refund” Exclusion

We do not use this policy to remove your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Any statement on this website about change-of-mind returns applies only to our voluntary change-of-mind policy and does not override Australian Consumer Law consumer guarantees.

18. Contact Us

If you have a question about a return, refund, repair or replacement, please contact Home Tech through our Contact Us page.
